🌿 The Ancient Science of Mian Xiang
Based on over 2,000 years of clinical observation in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mian Xiang (面相) — face reading — maps every facial zone to an internal organ meridian. Documented in the classical texts Spiritual Axis (Ling Shu) and Simple Questions (Su Wen), face diagnosis was used by Imperial physicians alongside pulse and tongue reading as a primary diagnostic method.
Combined with Dr. Peter Guy Manners' cymatics research, CymaFace translates your facial organ indicators directly into frequency prescriptions from the CymaTones library — delivering the exact acoustic commutations to organs your face identified as depleted.

📖 The Science of Mian Xiang
What is Mian Xiang? ▼
Mian Xiang (面相) is the 2,000-year-old TCM art of face reading. Documented in the classical texts Spiritual Axis (Ling Shu) and Simple Questions (Su Wen), it maps every facial zone to an organ meridian. Imperial physicians used it alongside pulse and tongue diagnosis as a primary diagnostic method. In TCM, the face is a microsystem — a complete map of the body's internal landscape, visible from the outside.

Skin Colour Diagnosis ▼
In TCM, the complexion tells the story of organ health:
Redness / Flushing — Heart Fire, hypertension, Liver Yang rising. Located in specific zones, it indicates which organ is generating heat.
Pallor / White — Qi deficiency, Blood deficiency, Lung or Spleen weakness. Pale skin suggests the body lacks the vitality to fill the surface.
Yellow / Sallow — Spleen and Stomach weakness, Dampness accumulation. The Spleen governs muscle and flesh — its weakness shows in the skin's colour.
Blue / Purple / Dark — Blood stasis, cold, pain. Often seen around the lips or in the under-eye zone when circulation is impaired.
Dark / Black — Kidney deficiency, especially Kidney Jing depletion. The darkening of the under-eye area is the most common indicator.

Jing · Qi · Shen — The Three Treasures ▼
The face reveals the state of all three treasures simultaneously:
Jing (Essence) — Visible in bone structure, the density of the brow ridge, fullness of the ears, and the firmness of the chin. Strong Jing gives a solid, well-defined facial structure. Depleted Jing manifests as sunken cheeks, thinning facial structure and premature aging.
Qi (Vital Energy) — Visible in skin radiance, muscle tone and the even distribution of colour. Abundant Qi gives a glowing, vital complexion. Deficient Qi gives dull, grey, or lusterless skin and drooping facial muscles.
Shen (Spirit-Mind) — Read entirely through the eyes: their brightness, focus, depth, and moisture. Vibrant Shen gives bright, clear, focused eyes. Disturbed Shen gives cloudy, vacant, unfocused, or excessively dry/wet eyes.

Expression Diagnostic Framework ▼
The FaceLab expression protocol is designed to reveal what a single photo cannot — the body's resting emotional patterns held in muscle memory:
Neutral — Constitutional baseline. Resting tone reveals chronic holding patterns.
Full Smile — Reveals asymmetry (one side of the face expressing more than the other indicates left/right meridian imbalance — left = Liver/Gallbladder, right = Lung/LI).
Raised Brows — Reveals the Liver zone between the brows (Yintang). Deep lines here indicate chronic Liver Qi stagnation.
Scowl — Reveals tension patterns in the Liver and Kidney zones. Inability to fully relax the brow after scowling indicates held anger patterns.
Pout Lips — Reveals Spleen/Stomach tone around the mouth. Asymmetry or excessive line depth indicates digestive organ weakness.
Eyes Wide — Reveals Kidney and adrenal vitality through eye socket depth and surrounding tissue quality.
